There are several features that you should consider when shopping around for a canvas boat. Since you are looking to protect your boat from the elements, you want a canvas that is water resistant, mildew resistant. Mold can grow if the moisture can not control.

A fabric of cotton is the best in terms of their ability to breathe but will not last long under constant exposure to UV rays. These are best used on a boat to be stored on a cover of some sort.

A polyester fabric is all it is light and does not let the fine dust, and offer UV protection.

For outdoor storage a cotton / poly blend fabric is a good choice. You get a cover that breathes enough to discourage mold growth on a canvas that is also resistant to UV rays.

To protect against rain or snow build, build a support canvas easy running a two by four supported at both ends along the length of the ship and laying the canvas on which is a frame. This effectively throws no rain or snow falling.

For the waterfowl hunter canvas is even available that can act as a blind shot with a camouflage design and holders for the natural foliage to provide further concealment.
